Build an export assortment around local fit, channel calendars, returns, and a defensible brand position.

A considered approach

Built around your business

Export the right assortment, not the whole range

Apparel and footwear expansion begins with the intended wearer, use occasion, and competitive set. Size labels alone do not describe fit. Test measurements, grading, comfort, and customer expectations with local buyers before allocating inventory across colors and sizes. Climate and seasonal buying calendars can change which products are relevant when your stock arrives. A focused capsule or core replenishment range may provide a clearer commercial test than a complete collection with too little depth in each variant.

Choose the channel's working model

Agents, distributors, boutiques, department stores, marketplaces, and direct sales create different responsibilities. Ask who owns inventory and whether orders are firm, cancellable, or linked to a selling season. Establish markdown support, returns, photography, and product-data requirements early. A showroom introduction is not a confirmed retail listing. Through distributor development, evaluate account relevance and merchandising capability alongside the proposed margin.

Prepare fit, claims, and product information

Qualified review should address applicable fiber or material information, care labeling, origin statements, product safety, and restricted-substance questions. Children's items and performance or protective claims need particular attention. Environmental statements should be specific and supported, not inferred from one material choice. Develop useful size guides and product descriptions through international marketing, with final pack and label decisions coordinated through appropriate specialists.

Measure the return-adjusted result

Build contribution after returns, exchanges, markdowns, fulfillment, and unsold seasonal stock. Record return reasons by size and style so a fit problem is not mistaken for weak demand. Agree replenishment priorities for winning variants and an exit plan for slow stock. Before scaling, confirm that the supply team can repeat the fit and quality buyers approved. Start with an export readiness assessment and define the pilot's inventory exposure before committing to a new season.
